
Tala is an SME specialist who has owned and managed several SMEs in the past 20 years, several of which were eventually sold. She is an honours Mechanical Engineering graduate with various business qualifications.
Throughout her career she trained and mentored franchise business owners as well as internal division managers. Areas of training included retail operations, management practices, business strategy, accounting, cash-flow, marketing, customer service and IT. She has also headed up the drafting of Operating Compliance Manuals for franchise operations and implemented all the elements involved.
Tala is highly experienced in fast start-ups and building businesses with extensive experience in the fields of retail, franchising, licensing and dealerships, importing, distribution and consulting. Her expertise lies in building and implementing customised cross-platform database and software solutions for businesses, automation, IT, web marketing, advertising, graphic design, business administration, process refinement and implementation. Her business experience ranges from bricks-and-mortar giftware retailing to highly technical fields such as security, CCTV, entertainment lighting and audio sales, hire and installations as well as e-commerce.
While operating her businesses, Tala acquired invaluable knowledge in the fields of accounting, budgeting, cash-flow management, tax, employing, retaining and training staff, sales, OEM, ODM, product development and especially importing and distribution having done over $50mil in business with China, USA, Europe and the Middle East in the last 20 years. She is also constantly implementing her production engineering experience in such areas as business plan flowcharting and project management.
Tala has been able to significantly transform her businesses on several occasions throughout her career to adapt to market trends and conditions. In 2002 she grew her giftware part-time business Planet Egypt by almost 200% annually over the initial 3 years, which was sold in 2007. In 2014 she succeeded in improving the profitability her medium sized business by as much as $1mil over a period of 3 years by implementing a variety of strategies resulting in a dramatic turnaround of the business. She has successfully managed a loyal team of staff over the years and was nominated for the Telstra Business Woman of the Year award in 2009.
In addition to speaking 3 languages fluently, Tala also has artistic flair and an equally impressive sporting career – she was the Egyptian Junior Fencing Champion throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. She currently holds a brown belt in Taekwondo and is in the final preparations for being promoted to a black belt, all while being a highly committed mother of two children.
